Now You Can Have a Dose of Flax Seed In Your Coffee

Take a walk through your local super market, and you’ll be surprised to see just how many products contain flax seed, which some call a “wonder food” for its many potential health benefits.  You’ll find ground flaxseed as a key ingredient in “chewy” products such as cereals, oat meal, breads, and crackers. But now, one processor has come up with a way to mix it with your morning coffee.

Flax Milk contains 1100mg of Omega 3sFlax Milk is the latest entry in the dairy and lactose free beverage category.  The company behind it, FLAX USA, says it contains 1100 mg of Omega 3s and has as much calcium as regular milk. Right now, it’s a one-of-a-kind product that’s only available at Wal Mart  in the refrigerated section.  I haven’t tasted it yet, but their publicity materials claim that both the regular and vanilla flavors are delicious. Rx for Hot Flashes: Pretty Fans!

Sometimes all you need for relief of hot flashes is a “bitty” breeze.   That’s what Stephanie Redman, the creator of the Bitty Breeze Fan,  had in mind when she designed these pretty, fold-away fans for women of a certain age.  As she put it,  you can use the fan “to turn a potentially awkward situation into a Audrey Hepburn moment!”  They’re available in five stylish designs and two sizes (the larger one is only $10) and they fold up to fit neatly into a small purse. Sometimes the simplest, low-tech solutions work the best!

 

A Dietitian Offers a New “Weigh” of Life, Not a New Diet

Not too long ago, I wrote about a recent study that concluded that simply consuming less calories is more important than the type of diet you choose when trying to lose weight.  Portion control is a key factor in any weight loss program, but it can be tricky. Dietitians recommend portions the size of our palm, or a hockey puck. But whose palm? (Your husband’s if you’re real hungry) And just how big is a hockey puck anyway?
