Fatigue, hair loss, depression and joint and muscle pain are just a few of the symptoms of a low thyroid (or hypothyroidism)- the gland that controls our metabolism. It’s not uncommon for women experiencing hormonal fluctuations – whether during pregnancy, perimenopause or menopause, to have a low-functioning thyroid. An explanation of why this happens can be found in an excellent series of articles on the Women To Women website.

What a great blog and great advice for women! Keep up the good work!
If someone has an underactive thyroid and is on Synthroid, would this person still experience these symptoms? Or, is the medication suppose to completely alleviate the symptoms?
Hello Caprice – Thanks for your question, but I think you’ll get your best answer from your own physician. WebMD also offers a search option for drug information. If you type in the name, it will give you a summary of uses, side effects, precautions and interactions.
I went to a hormone specialist who checked both my hormone levels and my thyroid. After spending a few months on both thyroid medication and BHRT, I feel great! I have so much energy AND I’m not depressed.
