One way to act upon the advice given in the NYT article is to look for workout routines that include hopping or skipping. I used a kick-box routine this morning on a DVD by Davina McCall (available in the UK) which includes lots of skips and jumps - and also plenty of punches and lunges, perfect for getting the circulation boosted after all these days of sitting around eating too much over the holidays.

Gosh - I don't think my knees would take to jumping up and down. I have been relying on pilates - do you know anything about how effective that might be? I am using a pilates machine.
